A New Beginning

Genesis 1: 1-2

One of the most profound things about God is His ability to turn things around; to do a new thing – and I pray that the God of new beginnings will do a new thing in your life in Jesus’ name. In Gen 1:1-2 we see total confusion; the Bible says the earth was formless. We see darkness, we see void; yet the Bible says God moved. The Spirit of God moved, He spoke and said let there be light. And out of the formlessness, out of that void, that emptiness, out of that dark situation, God created the beautiful world that we have today. I pray that that same God will bring beauty out of your ashes in Jesus’ name. Amen. I pray that if there be any mourning in your life at all, God will turn it into dancing, and He will turn every emptiness in your life into an overflow in Jesus’ name. Amen.
Now, we can pray that God will turn things around, but let us encourage ourselves by examining God’s track record of doing new things. Can God be relied upon to really turn mourning into dancing? Can God really be relied upon to turn the darkest night into the brightest light? I have seen people go through some really dark moments. I have been through some myself, and I know that it takes Grace that something good can come out of darkness.

So let us look at God’s track record even from our passage:

1.    God has the Ability and a Record of Reordering Totally Scattered Situations.
God can take a situation that is completely messed up, completely irredeemable and bring order out of it. I’m sure you can remember in Ezekiel 37; ‘The Valley of Dry Bones’, that God turned dry bones into a mighty army. Your business may have become like that, your marriage may have become completely dry and empty, but the God who turned the valley of dry bones into a mighty company, that same God will turn things around for you in Jesus’ name. In Genesis 1:1-2, we saw God take a completely formless disorderly void and turn it into a world with amazing order. I pray that that architect and builder will redesign your life today, and He will rebuild your ruins in Jesus’ name. I don’t know what confusion the enemy has brought into your life. I don’t know whether it is in your finances, your marriage, or your Christianity, but today in that Name that is above every other name, order is coming back in Jesus’ name.

You know before I met Jesus Christ, though I was not living in a graveyard (like the mad man of Gadarenes in Mark 5:1-20), I wasn’t much better than this fellow.  I mean do you know of someone who can smoke so much and will sleep off with the cigarette burning in his mouth, and when he wakes up the whole bed would have almost caught fire. My life was completely useless! But today, to the glory of the Most High God, whether it is in Church, or it is in the business world, individuals, companies, people believe that if Sola can speak to them for 1 hour, somehow things will take a turn for the best in their lives. I’m praying for someone here in the Mighty name of Jesus Christ, the One who is the Architect and the Builder, He will bring something mighty out of your life in the name of Jesus.

2.    God can Bring a Totally New Light out of Utter darkness
In Genesis 1:2 there was deep darkness the Bible says, over the face of the earth. Yet God called light out of that darkness. Ladies and gentlemen, darkness means stagnation. Darkness means regression; no matter how fast your car is if you are surrounded with darkness and your head lights cannot see far, how fast do you think you will move? If you move at all, it will be very slow. Darkness means a lack of vision, a lack of light to see ahead; and I’m sure you know that the Bible says that “Without vision the people perish”.

And darkness of course means death, when people die they go into darkness. But all that is not a problem for this God. God is not afraid of darkness because His name is Light. He is the light of the world, and the Bible tells us that anybody that follows Him will never walk in darkness. Abraham was a 75 years old man, but his life was swathed in darkness. He lived at home at seventy-five under his father’s roof. No child, not much was happening for him materially. But then in Genesis 12:1-3, this God of New Beginnings came into Abraham’s life and released His word to him. By the time we get to Genesis 24 the Bible says God had blessed Abraham greatly and he had become very rich. The same light that God brought into Abraham’s life, He is bringing it into your life today in Jesus’ name.

Light brings beauty. Everything in Abraham began to radiate freshness, such that his near seventy year old wife even became attractive to kings, because light came. I don’t know which area of your life that darkness has brought stagnation, where darkness has brought regression, where your beauty had become ugly. All I know is that the moment Abraham began to bow at the feet of God, the moment he began to water God (Genesis 18 God visited Abraham and Abraham washed His feet and ministered to Him), the moment Abraham began to follow God rather than the idols of his father’s house, his story changed. Your story will change today in Jesus’ name.

Before I met Jesus, my life was total darkness. Even when I thought I was making money and making progress, I was actually going backwards. Here I was in Lagos thinking I was a Lagos big boy, not knowing that my life was at a standstill. All I lived for was for the next party, but my life kept moving backwards until it came to a complete standstill.  But then I met Jesus Christ, and since I began to follow Jesus, I’m so completely overwhelmed about what Jesus has done in my life. And I’m here to say to someone, if you’ll truly give Jesus His place in your life, the Bible tells us that eyes have not seen, ears have not heard, it has not even entered into the hearts of men, what God has prepared for you. God will do a new thing in your life today in the Mighty name of Jesus.

3.    God can Bring New Abundance out of your emptiness.
Out of the void of Genesis 1, God brought such abundance that filled the earth. The world we see today was once an empty void. The whole earth was nothing and once and empty void. The whole earth was nothing and then the Spirit of God moved, and the earth was filled (and is still filled) with the glory of God. Everything was empty, nothing was happening. It’s a long time there was a song in your life. It’s a long time there was a celebration. It’s a long time any new thing happened, but then the Spirit of God moved and where there had been nothing, something happened. I am so convinced in my being that God is set to bring fullness out of somebody’s emptiness today. I’m convinced in my being that God is set to bring fruitfulness out of someone’s void today. If you are that person can you say Amen!

Peter was a poor fisherman. He lived from hand to mouth. Not only did he live from hand to mouth, one day even the hand that was going to the mouth had nothing to put in the mouth. He said to Jesus Christ “I have fished all night and caught nothing”. As the Almighty God lives, the word of God says the end of a thing is better than its beginning. I am convinced in my spirit that God is set to make that word come to past in your life today in Jesus’ name.

So How do I Receive this New Beginning?

1.    Get on the Lord’s side
That’s the first thing you’ve got to do!

God was able to command light and abundance into this work because there was no resistance. He said “let there be light”; nobody resisted Him. God commanded Abraham to leave his father and he obeyed. The Bible says as a result of that obedience, it was recorded to him for righteousness and became a friend of God. As recorded in Acts 3:19 and Isaiah 55:7, if you decide to reconcile your position with God today, He will abundantly pardon you. He will show you mercy and favour.

2.    Once you are on His side- You need to Provoke God.
You see, many Christians have become so jaded, so stale in their walk with God that from year to year, nothing new happens in their lives. And sometimes when they don’t move quickly, after sometime they begin to backslide; they know that they are backsliding, though they appear to be doing well. Bible says the Spirit moved over the face of the waters. God never does anything new until we move Him. Yes, you add year upon year, but I’m sure that’s not the type of movement you are looking for. In fact, some people don’t want the day to break, because it’s another day of challenges. But I’m talking about quantum changes in circumstances. When you want to make a JUMP in your life and say ‘thus far and no more’, you have to move the hand of God. The Bible is very clear to us that God’s default position is that He sits on His throne. He sits on His throne; He is God. He is not a servant. He sends angels all over, but He sits. But when you want God to ARISE on your behalf, you’ve got to move Him.

How do you move God?

            Praise Him
When you want God to move in your life, open your mouth and praise God. When Jehoshaphat needed God to move on his behalf, the Bible says in 2 Chronicles 20:20 that God told him to begin to praise Him, and to get other people to join him in his praise. And if you read the Bible very well, it says as they began to praise God, Who moved? The Bible says God set ambushes. This month, those who are trying to ambush you, God will ambush them. That’s why you need to always praise God like you have never praised Him before.

Move God with your Offering.
When was the last time you gave God an offering that made you afraid yourself? I had prepared my offering for today, and then I was going through my notes when God said to me “When are you going to give Me an offering that will make you afraid”? So I changed it! I will testify of that offering very soon. As you do the same, your own testimony will also speedily come in Jesus’ name. Amen!

If you truly desire a New Beginning with God, take a step of faith by starting afresh with Him….pray as follows:

“Lord Jesus, I want to know You personally. Thank You for dying on the cross for my sins. I open the door of my life to You and ask You to come in as my Saviour and Lord. Take control of my life. Thank you for forgiving my sins and giving me eternal life. Make me the kind of person you want me to be.”

Becoming God’s Favourite

Gen 5:21-24

When two people walk together for long, they become alike e.g. in friendship/marriage.

In life, there are levels of relationships.

In Luke 10:1, Jesus appointed seventy people and sent them out in twos to be His fore-runners. They were not named, because they were acquaintance. Many of us are mere acquaintances with God. We are far from Him. If you are just my acquaintance, I can’t be of great help to you. I pray that from today, you will no longer be a mere acquaintance to God.

Then you can also be a friend.
In Mark 3:14, Jesus appointed twelve, to be with Him, and preach on His behalf. To be His friends, first, before working for Him.

In John 15:15, Jesus said, you are no longer just servants, but my friends. Many of us work for God, but we are not His friends. A good tip for anyone who wants to be promoted in life: learn to be good friends with your boss. A boss will always promote his friend above acquaintances, sometimes even sacrificing competence.

In James 2:23, Abraham was called the Friend of God. I pray that this year, God will see you as His friend, not just a member, worker or minister, but a friend.

Then there are the Special Friends.
These are the inner caucus. In Mark 9:2, Jesus took Peter, James and John to a high mountain, separating them from the other nine disciples. In Mark 5:37, when Jesus was going to raise Jairus’ daughter from the dead, He took only Peter, James and John.  I pray that this year, you will become special in God’s hands and eyes.

Then lastly, there are favourites.
Many people delude themselves that God has no favorites. But He did and still does.  Enoch was God’s favorite.  David was God’s favorite. Acts 13:22 says,  “And when He had removed him, He raised up for them David as king, to whom also He gave testimony and said, I have found David the son of Jesse, a man after My own heart, who will do all My will.”

Moses was also a favourite of God. See Numbers 12: 1-10. Of the 3 special disciples, John, was singled out as the beloved (favourite) of Jesus. I pray that this year, you will become a favourite of God.

What happens when you become God’s Favourite?

1.    All Round victory in Life.
Abraham, a favourite of God was blessed in all things; Gen. 24:1 “ Now Abraham was old, well advanced in age; and the Lord had blessed Abraham in all things.”. All those who tried to oppose him, faced God’s anger. See Gen 20:1-3 and 17-18. David, another favourite of God had this record in 2 Samuel 7:1 “Now it came to pass when the king was dwelling in his house, and the Lord had given him rest from all his enemies all around.”

For the rest of your life, God will give you all-round victory in Jesus’ name.

2.    Preferential Treatment
When you are God’s favourite, doors that shut against others, will open for you. Till today, the house of David is favoured by God. Till today, the nation of Israel who are the descendants of Abraham are still enjoying favoured treatment.

During the plagues in Egypt, no matter what happened to others, Abraham’s children were safe. As you choose to draw closer to God, His goodness will overflow in your life, and you will shine brighter in Jesus’ name.

How do I become His favourite?

1.    Choose to draw closer to Him daily. James 4:8
Today, tell God, I am drawing closer to You. Say a final bye-bye to the crowd and draw nearer to God. Once you have committed your life to Jesus, don’t stop. Get to know Him more. Study His word. Spend quality time with Him and for His cause on earth!

2.    Love what God loves and Hate what He hates passionately.
Hebrews 1:9 says “You have loved righteousness and hated lawlessness; Therefore God, Your God, has anointed you with the oil of gladness more than Your companions.”

I want to be God’s favourite all my life. Do you want to be His favourite? Only His favourites will become His bride and reign with Him, in Heaven.

If you’d like to walk intimately with God, take the first step by starting afresh with Him…pray as follows:

Lord Jesus, I want to know You personally. Thank You for dying on the cross for my sins. I open the door of my life to You and ask You to come in as my Saviour and Lord. Take control of my life. Thank you for forgiving my sins and giving me eternal life. Make me the kind of person you want me to be.”

From Family to Dynasty

We live in a world that is created by God and given to the sons and daughters of Adam We came out from God and we are going back to God. It’s called from eternity past to eternity coming. We must maintain continuity through time so that when we arrive at eternity, I will have returned to the Source of my being. That’s why we must have some vision for  our lives that is composite, global and that is total so that you don’t see things in parts. There is unity, there is diversity but it must converge again, so I came from God and I’m going back to God.
Psa 8:3-5  When I consider thy heavens, the work of thy fingers, the moon and the stars, which thou hast ordained;  (4)  What is man, that thou art mindful of him? and the son of man, that thou visitest him?  (5)  For thou hast made him a little lower than the angels, and hast crowned him with glory and honour.
You need to understand this so that there can be some purpose to your life, some defining direction that tells you that life must be lived in the will of God to make sense at all. If my life is ever going to make sense, in time and in eternity, then I have to live it in the will of God. It says, ‘He made man a little lower than Himself’. In other words, in creation hierarchy, there is God and there is man before angels. This is very significant for you and I as we go through time because we live in a world that has a ‘god’. The Bible speaks about the ‘god’ of this world blinding the minds of those who don’t believe. We have to contend with the gods of this world but when you realize that God created you a little lower than Him, above the gods of this world. You can then have faith in God to live like an overcomer. You can set decrees in the heavens that will cause the purposes of God to be manifest in your life.
The other revelation that you and I must have is that the tragedy that occurred in Genesis 3, the fall of man is very significant because it introduced something that was not there before, it introduced SELF-WILL. If you want to know what the tree of life is all about, it is the unleashing of self-will. Before Adam ate from the forbidden tree, it was God who decided right from wrong. Then the devil came and said, you don’t have to live like that, you can decide right and wrong yourself. Now if you are coming from eternity past, look at the order, it was a world where God determined right and wrong. When Adam ate the forbidden fruit, he got unhooked from that control and began to decide for himself what is right and wrong. Thereafter God saw that all the thoughts and imaginations of man were evil continually. That’s what happens when you unhook yourself from the will of God and that’s why we live in a world now where a man wants to come to the father and say, Daddy I am getting married to James. Or a girl wants to get married to Patience. Something chickens don’t do.
Once you unhook from God, anything can happen but God knowing the tragedy that will befall man began the journey of restoration, so Abraham was the revelation of what God can do with a single family. In Genesis 12, we see the election of grace. Abraham was not different from his peers at the time but this is what we call the election of grace. That’s why the Bible says, it is by faith that it may be by grace. Grace means, ‘nothing qualifies me, I am not better than the people around me’ but God in His infinite mercy chose me. Buried in that statement is ‘fore-knowledge’. God said, ‘Jacob I have loved, Esau I have hated’. God sees the heart and knows the future, so He chose Abraham and began this whole thing about families. He set up the first family. It was a tragic failure so He found another family and began the principle of divine isolation. He said to him, what I want to do with you, I can’t do where you are so you have to move. It’s the same thing God is saying to all of us, ‘come out from among them and be separate and then what I want to do can begin.’ There are many people who can’t break from their friends who reject God, yet there is a call from God for isolation.
How do we know that God was in a programme with Abraham that had to do with families? In Genesis 18, God said, I have found me a man that will establish the worship of the true God in his generation. If you are single, you have a tremendous opportunity to become an Abraham in your generation because you can say to God when you are trying to get married, I don’t need a wife that speaks like ‘Queen Elizabeth’. I tell young people not to fall in love, they should just love not fall so they can check things properly.
The most important thing is to live for time and eternity. Eternity is beckoning. Eternity is critical. What God wants us to do with our families is critical in time and eternity and that’s what I must live for. Abraham set up a dynasty that today we celebrate all over the world. If you check Jews up on the internet, you will be amazed at what they have achieved in all fields. This all goes back to one man who followed what God told him and that’s why you cannot underestimate what today represents celebrating what God is doing in families. You can line up your own family, so that everything that is in the heart of God concerning them can come to pass. Abraham was a very careful man and Isaac was a very wonderful child. Abraham wasn’t promoting tribalism when he sent his servant to go to his own people to get a wife for Isaac after the death of his mother.  Abraham knew that if Isaac married from Canaan, the girl would drag him to idolatry because marriage is powerful.
God sets up families so that the purposes of God can be fulfilled and so you and I can join those who are rejoicing in what that family brought to the world. Through the family, Jesus our Savior was born. Through Jesus, we are now members of God’s family. Peter says in 1 Peter 2:9 that we are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a peculiar people who have been born to show forth the praises of God. Isn't it amazing how God has brought us into His family? Israel was a revelation of what God began to do through nations.
God doesn't save a person just for themselves. God saves a person for Himself to manifest His glory on the earth. That’s why He sets up families so that you and I can become the kind of people that God calls His own. God does not bring people to himself unless He has washed them, so that we can become acceptable to Him. Saved people are always very grateful. Christianity exists in your heart. It is a commitment, a loyalty, a determination. That’s why you have to love your spouse. God doesn't walk with people until they are ready to do what He says. Abraham travelled on foot, it must have taken weeks, with his family but he did it to obey God. When a man decides that his family will serve God, then the passion for God will begin to grow. David shows us this. He built a befitting house for God. His family became entrenched in Israel because of his loyalty to God.

To show that families are very important to God, see what God told David in 2 Samuel 7:12  And when thy days be fulfilled, and thou shalt sleep with thy fathers, I will set up thy seed after thee, which shall proceed out of thy bowels, and I will establish his kingdom. Doing the will of God has its rewards not only in time but also in eternity. Maybe your parents were not Christians, you can determine to be different because you have a revelation of what God can do with families. God said there will always be a man from the family of David on the throne of Israel. When his sons sinned against God, God caused kingship to cease in Israel rather than put another man on the throne until Jesus came. God sees the heart. God warned Samuel not to look at the outward appearance. Have a heart that loves God today, have a heart that desires to please God and you will become special. Always thank God from the bottom of your heart. There are so many things that could have killed you but you are still alive. Thanksgiving is not a religious fiction. And when you have been saved to have a family and raise a dynasty for God, you should thank God.
If you will decide to give your heart to Jesus today, pray as follows:

Lord Jesus, I want to know you personally. Thank you for dying on the cross for my sins. I open the door of my life to you and ask you to come in as my Saviour and Lord. Take control of my life. Thank you for forgiving my sins and giving me eternal life. Make me the kind of person you want me to be.

Rising Higher

Isaiah 40: 31

One of the most important things to know is that God has a higher plan for your life. It is important for you to keep rising because if you remain on the same spot, you’ll begin to go backwards. As far as God is concerned, your tomorrow should be better than your today. (Haggai 2:9, Job 8:7 and Eccl 7:8).
Not only does God want you to rise higher continually, He has also made a way for that plan to happen. Storms even propel them higher. In Isaiah 40:31, God said those who wait on Him will mount up with wings as eagles. Eagles always soar higher. They are unstoppable, not even by storms. So if you learn to wait on the Lord, He will keep lifting you higher.
To wait on someone means ‘to minister to the person’. Are you ministering unto the Lord or man? There are many ways to minister to the Lord. Of them all, thanksgiving stands out. Thanksgiving tells God, the Promoter of mankind that you are grateful for yesterday and today. It also tells God that you acknowledge what He sent. Thanksgiving also tells God is that ‘I am ready for the next level’.
When God sees that you are a thankful person, He ensures that you keep getting more. He ensures that you keep rising higher. If God can see any ingratitude in your life at all, He maintains you where you are. Thanksgiving tells God that we are grateful and need more from Him. Thanksgiving appeals to a fundamental rule of God that ensures that He plants His seed only on fertile ground. When you are thankful, you are telling God, ‘I am fertile ground, a good place to invest’.
Let’s look at three good examples. Solomon in 2 Chronicles 1: 1 - 12. Solomon was already great but he needed wisdom so he did something. He went to the high place and gave God a thousand bulls.  This was a combination of many offerings but mostly thanksgiving. God appeared to him that night and told him to ask for anything. If you want a miracle from God, give a sacrifice in advance. God blessed and promoted Solomon because of the offering he gave. He gave him so much wisdom and wealth that he became the reference point for prosperity and good counsel.
God can make you greater. There is a higher level. How high you will rise tomorrow is determined by how grateful you are today. If you are not grateful for today you cannot rise to the next level.
A second example is David in 2 Samuel 7: 1-16. God gave David rest from all his enemies. Even his son, Absalom was silenced for standing in his way. That’s what we call promotion. When all those who rise against you fall before you, then you know God has lifted you up. How did David get such a testimony of victory? He was a man who loved to minister to the Lord. One day in Psalm 34:1, David said, ‘I will bless the Lord at all times and His praise will continually be in my mouth.’ On yet another, as he sat in his palace, He decided to build God a house in appreciation of all that God had done. That really excited God. When you are a grateful person, you are telling God that you should be blessed but when you are ungrateful you are telling God that you are someone who should be cursed. God told David he would establish the throne in his family forever even if his children missed the way.  Till today, Jesus, the King of kings is called the Son of David. Your future is determined by your appreciation of what God has done. When we withhold gratitude from God, we shut down ourselves.
A good example is that of the children of Israel which is the flip side. In Numbers 14: 11 – 31, God had brought the children of Israel out of Egypt. God did so much for these people and drowned the armies of a whole nation for them. Then one day, God brought them to the edge of the land He promised them but they started complaining because of the giants in their way. They had forgotten the goodness God had showered on them. Suddenly, the same pleasure that God had for David and Solomon transformed into vicious anger. God was so angry that He cursed them heavily. Even Moses had to stop interceding for them. When you are an ungrateful person, no prayer can work for you. God closes heaven over anyone who is ungrateful. When God blesses you a little and you don’t show gratitude, He suspends His plans for your future.  I pray that songs of thanksgiving will never cease from your lips in Jesus’ name.
How then should you minister to God so He can keep lifting you up? Above all, learn to give him thanks in all situations. Thank Him for yesterday. Thank Him for today. Thank Him for tomorrow. Thank Him so much that He will know you appreciate all He has done.
Make sure that He accepts your thanksgiving. The sacrifices of those living outside His will are not acceptable by God. If you are living in sin or disobedience, no matter how much you give or dance, it’s a waste. God will not accept your sacrifice. Take a decision today that you are going higher, above sin, above failure, above your enemies, above your circumstances. Make a decision to live for Jesus alone forever. If you have made that decision, pray as follows:
Lord Jesus, I want to know you personally. Thank you for dying on the cross for my sins. I open the door of my life to you and ask you to come in as my Saviour and Lord. Take control of my life. Thank you for forgiving my sins and giving me eternal life. Make me the kind of person you want me to be.
